PROPERTY INVESTMENT AND TAX ADVANTAGES IN MAURITIUS
The Marguery Exclusive Villas programme has been awarded the RES label by the BOI (Board of Investment). The RES (Real Estate Scheme) acquisition model is a system set up by the Mauritian government in late 2007 that allows foreign citizens to become owners of a property on Mauritius.
As the price of the villas is over 500,000 $ (383,000 €), owners automatically qualify for Permanent Resident status and are therefore given a Residence Permit (subject to acceptance by the BOI) that will end only if the property is sold one day. If owners choose to live for 183 days a year (6 months + 1 day) in Mauritius, they qualify for tax residence and benefit from all the advantages of the Mauritian tax system.
What are the advantages of the Mauritian tax system?
– A single tax band of 15% on income, including rental income
– A non-dual taxation treaty between Mauritius and 37 countries
– No capital gains tax on profits if you sell the property
– No tax on this capital gain if it is repatriated or reinvested locally
– No tax on dividends
